It’s finally here! The review of this Tamarack Jacket pattern. This pattern has been all over Pinterest and Instagram, so it definitely needed to be included in the “Quilt Coat Pattern Round-up”. The Adobe Quilt pattern was used for this quilt coat, and it’s easy to see that it’s a perfect combination.

Almost every cut is unique, and it also utilizes templates provided to create the distinct shapes seen in this design. The Cutting Instructions may appear intimidating, but the challenge is not primarily in the technique or method— it is in the organization. 7 fabrics cut into nearly 60 individual pieces takes time and attention to do correctly.

Introducing: The Adobe Quilt
Parents aren’t supposed to admit to having favorite children but…Adobe is my favorite pattern child. It began as an improv design loosely based on New Mexican architecture and slowly grew into a tried and true quilt pattern. The contours are reminiscent of the rounded entryways and stacked adobe bricks are often seen in classic Southwestern building designs. Those shapes combined with the colors of the desert—the red dirt, muted greenery, and huge blue skies—remind me of home.
