Tamarack Quilt Coat Review

It’s finally here! The review of this Tamarack Jacket pattern. This pattern has been all over Pinterest and Instagram, so it definitely needed to be included in the “Quilt Coat Pattern Round-up”. The Adobe Quilt pattern was used for this quilt coat, and it’s easy to see that it’s a perfect combination.

Adobe Quilt Along Week 2: Cutting your fabric.

The cutting portion of the Adobe Quilt is certainly the most time-consuming section of this pattern. Almost every cut is unique, and it also utilizes templates provided to create the distinct shapes seen in this design. The Cutting Instructions may appear intimidating, but the challenge is not primarily in the technique or method— it is in the organization. 7 fabrics cut into nearly 60 individual pieces takes time and attention to do correctly.

Isn’t this the most intimidating part of the quilting process? You’ve selected the perfect quilt pattern, you have the recipient in mind, and now it’s time to select fabrics. But the options are ENDLESS. There are thousands of fabric stores and an infinite combination of prints, solids, textures, etc. It’s overwhelming! I don’t have all of the answers, but after learning from a few terrible fabric selections, here are a few tips to help prevent missteps in the fabric selection process.

Introducing: The Adobe Quilt

Parents aren’t supposed to admit to having favorite children but…Adobe is my favorite pattern child. It began as an improv design loosely based on New Mexican architecture and slowly grew into a tried and true quilt pattern. The contours are reminiscent of the rounded entryways and stacked adobe bricks are often seen in classic Southwestern building designs. Those shapes combined with the colors of the desert—the red dirt, muted greenery, and huge blue skies—remind me of home.

The Perfect Quilt Coat: a review of modern quilt coat patterns

As September lengthens and October approaches, every quilter’s social media begins to fill with photos of gorgeous quilt coats. Modern, traditional, structured, drapey, minimal, maximal, new, upcycled, the possibilities are endless, and all are enviable. It causes one to think, “I’m a quilter. I should be able to make one of those!” So you gather your courage, select a sacrificial quilt, and….pick a coat pattern? But which one?? There are so many!
